We are proud to donate to our two favorite charities, St. Jude Hospital for Children and to The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The mission of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is to organize for collective power by engaging the public and mobilizing them as advocates to help NCADV empower victims through financial education training, providing free cosmetic, dental and reconstructive surgery to survivors, and serving as a positive force for societal change through public policy intiatives and legislation. Donations from the year 2005 helped the NCADV accomplish important goals and provided these free programs to survivors:
~ NCADV's financial education project reached thousands throughout the US in 2005. The goal of the project is to help battered women achieve economic empowerment and self-sufficiency through financial education workshops.
~ NCADV's cosmetic, dental and reconstructive surgery program reached 2,500 surviviors in 2005. Thanks to this program, medical professionals from across the country were able to assist thousands of surviviors in removing the physical scars of abuse.
~ NCADV's public policy office held the largest national lobby day last year to acquire increased federal funding for violence against women programs and the reauthorization of The Violence Against Women Act (which was recently passed in both the House and Senate). NCADV is now actively helping both houses comprise the bill and soliciting President Bush to sign it. (Update: President Bush signed this bill into law January 2006).
NCADV cannot accomplish their goals without our help and we are honored to help them by selling baby products in our boutique. NCADV is committed to being the voice of survivors and to eliminating domestic violence among urban and rural families across all racial, religious and economic groups. Thank you for your business and and helping us support all of their work to make "every home a safe home".
